MECEE-BL Medical Entrance Guide: Syllabus, Scoring and Strategy
The Medical Education Commission Common Entrance Examination for Bachelor Level (MECEE-BL) is the single entrance examination for all medical, dental, and allied health programs across Nepal.

1. Common Entrance Examination curriculum breakdown
MECEE-BL consists of 200 multiple-choice questions administered over a 3-hour (180-minute) testing session. The curriculum is directly aligned with the NEB +2 science syllabus with additional reasoning depth.
The paper is allocated as follows: Physics (50 marks), Chemistry (50 marks), Zoology (40 marks), Botany (40 marks), and Mental Agility Test / MAT (20 marks).
2. Managing negative marking (-0.25 penalty)
Each correct response awards 1 mark, while an incorrect response results in a deduction of 0.25 marks (-25% penalty). Unattempted items receive zero marks.
Never guess blindly. If you can confidently eliminate two out of four options, the statistical expectation becomes positive (+0.375 per question). If you cannot eliminate any option, leave the bubble blank.
3. High-yield subject focus areas
In Biology (80 marks combined), master human physiology, organ system mechanics, Mendelian genetics, plant water relations, and photosynthesis cycles ($C_3$ and $C_4$). This section carries the highest return on investment per study hour.
In Chemistry (50 marks), emphasize organic reaction mechanisms, named reactions, stoichiometry, chemical equilibrium, and thermodynamics. In Physics (50 marks), mechanics, ray optics, modern physics, and electrostatics dominate the numerical distribution.
The Mental Agility Test (20 marks) covers analytical reasoning, verbal comprehension, and numerical relations. These 20 marks often separate top-tier scholarship rankers from borderline qualifiers.
4. Revision timetable and mock testing
In the final 8 weeks before the examination, shift from passive textbook reading to full-length timed mock tests. Complete at least one timed 200-question mock test per week under strict 3-hour exam conditions.
Log every wrong and unattempted item in an error notebook, classifying whether the mistake stemmed from missing knowledge, miscalculation, or misreading the question stem.
