1. Examination structure and marks weighting

The TU CMAT consists of 100 objective multiple-choice questions carrying 1 mark each, designed to assess a candidate’s academic aptitude within a 90-minute time window.

2. Section-by-section preparation strategy

In Verbal Ability, read long-form editorial columns and build word-root familiarity. Eliminate incorrect options based on grammatical consistency and tonal charge rather than guessing purely by sound.

For Quantitative Ability, memorize common fraction-to-percentage conversions (e.g., 1/6 = 16.67%, 1/8 = 12.5%) and practice mental shortcuts. Spend no more than 75 seconds per calculation on your first pass through the test.

In Logical Reasoning, sketch out quick diagrams for direction and family relationship questions. Practice Venn diagram deduction for categorical syllogisms to avoid falling for invalid assumptions.

3. Strategic time allocation on test day

Managing 90 minutes across 100 questions requires a disciplined schedule: spend 10 minutes on General Awareness, 12 minutes on Business & Economics, 18 minutes on Verbal Ability, 20 minutes on Logical Reasoning, and 25 minutes on Quantitative Ability.

Reserve the final 5 minutes strictly for verifying that all OMR bubbles are properly filled and checking that no unanswered questions were skipped inadvertently.

4. Admission weight and cutoff trends

CMAT score is typically weighted at 60% of the composite admission evaluation in constituent colleges such as Shanker Dev Campus, Public Youth, and Saraswati Campus. The remaining evaluation is based on 10+2 marks (30%) and a personal interview (10%).

A competitive CMAT score for central constituent campuses typically falls above 65 to 70 marks, while affiliated colleges generally require crossing the 40-mark passing threshold.
